Why should I choose an MCS certified installer?
MCS certification shows an installer meets industry standards for design and installation. An MCS installation certificate is normally needed to receive Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) payments for electricity you export to the grid.
Do I need to tell my network operator about solar panels?
Yes. Your installer notifies your Distribution Network Operator (DNO). Smaller systems within the G98 limit (16A per phase) are notified after installation; larger systems, or systems with batteries that take the total over the limit, need G99 approval before they are connected.
What should I look for in a solar quote?
Ask for an itemised quote showing the panels, inverter, any battery, scaffolding, electrical work, warranties and estimated generation, based on a site survey. Compare quotes for the same specification.
